There are actually two (2) sets of stairs, one concrete and one wooden.  A workout can comprise of up and backs on one set or the other, as well as the popluar ‘loop.’  The concrete steps are directly at the end of 4th street, where 4th street meets Adelaide Drive in Santa Monica.  The wooden steps are to the east several hundred feet.  Both sets of stairs connect Adelaide Drive (above) to the ocean-level street below.

he concrete stairs begin at the intersection of 4th Street and leads to Ocean Avenue Ext. As the name suggests, the flights of the stairs are made of concrete. The stairs take right and left-hand turns and keep rising to 187-189 steps which are about 111 foot high vertically and again is equivalent to eight stories high from the ground. This staircase is a bit narrower than the wooden staircase, but still it’s an excellent location to visit.

Always packed. The twin Santa Monica stairs are a mecca for hard bodies and weekend fitness warriors who also jump rope, stretch, jog and power through pull-ups, push-ups and sit-ups in between climbing. Be sure to bring whatever you need as there are no facilities.

If you’re a health-conscious person living near Santa Monica, you already know this place and have probably been there. The wooden stairs start at the intersection of 7th Street leads to Entrada Drive. There are about 170 steps in there which is about 109 feet high from the ground.
